Statistics STAT 2263 Three (3) credit hours

This is an introductory statistics course for students in programs such as Kinesiology, Education, Nursing, Business, Psychology, Sociology, and more. Topics include data types, probability, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression, and ANOVA. The course uses real-world examples and the free statistical software R (via RStudio). No textbook is required. Assessment includes mini-lectures, quizzes, homework, and a final project.

Instructor: Caroline Purdy
Prerequisite: A New Brunswick high school mathematics course, either Pre-Calculus 110 or Foundations of Mathematics 120, or equivalent.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

This course is designed to help you:

  • Understand and distinguish between types of data and statistical methods (descriptive vs. inferential).
  • Apply core probability concepts and distributions to assess uncertainty.
  • Use the Central Limit Theorem to inform sampling and inference.
  • Construct and interpret confidence intervals for population parameters.
  • Perform hypothesis tests with numerical and categorical data.
  • Analyze relationships using correlation, regression, and ANOVA.
  • Use R to organize data and perform statistical analyses.
  • Interpret and communicate statistical results in real-world contexts.

Fees and payments

There is a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees. This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in. Please note this fee will be automatically added and included in your term tuition fees.
