This course examines the relation between technology and society with specific emphasis on these three themes:

  1. What are the large-scale social impacts of technology?
  2. What social conditions foster innovation?
  3. Can we solve the problems of the future?

What you will learn

This course is designed to help you:

  • Understand and be able to critically evaluate the social impact of technology.
  • Learn about the social conditions that foster innovation and technological development.
  • Appreciate the role of technologies in the creation of novel problems and be able to assess their role in solving the problems of the future.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

  • 7 x application assignments (5% each; 35% total)
  • 3 x article evaluation assignments (10% each; 30% total)
  • 1 x final exam (invigilated, 35% total)

The exam(s) for this course will be invigilated on an approved date using Respondus e-proctoring software (LockDown Browser and Monitor). This is a free tool provided with this course, a webcam is required. More information will be given once you have been registered.

Fees and payments

There is a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees. This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in. Please note this fee will be automatically added and included in your term tuition fees.
