Introduction to Criminology

Criminology	CRIM 1603	Three (3) credit hours

This course examines concepts and terms commonly used in criminology, the relationship between theory and practice, the history and evolution of criminological thought and methods of investigation into criminal behaviour.

The practical applications of criminology and the foundations of a modern criminal justice policy are also discussed. This course is cross listed as SOCI 1603.

Note: Credit can only be obtained for one of CRIM 1603 or SOCI 1603.

What you will learn

This course is designed to help you:

• Understand the relationship between crime and society.
• Examine various explanations of criminality.
• Explore criminal justice policy, including punishment and prevention.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

• 3 x unit tests (45% total)
• 3 x unit learning assignments (45% total)
• Class engagement (10%)

Fees and payments

There is a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees. This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in. Please note this fee will be automatically added and included in your term tuition fees.
