Current and Evolving Issues in Sport from a Legal Perspective

Kinesiology KIN 6340 Three (3) credit hours

This course will examine current and evolving issues that challenge fundamental legal norms and laws governing sports. Some issues include: the legal status of athletes, human rights and discrimination, integrity and corruption, legal protections for athletes, impact of social media, addressing sport disputes and impact on sport with COVID-19. They will be considered through the lenses of the law, social justice, legal ideologies and dispute resolution.

Prerequisite: Graduate Level Students or permission of the Instructor. Undergraduate students are not eligible.

What you will learn

This course is designed to help you:

  • Enhance critical thinking skills by examining and applying various contentious legal issues evolving in sport.
  • Understand the laws and legal principles surrounding sports contracts and regulations, and how trending issues challenge these fundamental legal principles.
  • Gain knowledge and practical application of dealing with developing issues surrounding sport.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

  • 2 x written papers - 3500 words each (50% each paper)

Fees and payments

There is a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees. This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in. Please note this fee will be automatically added and included in your term tuition fees.
