This fully online version of BIOL 1012 invites you on a journey through the foundations of life on Earth. We begin by uncovering the forces that drive evolution and shape the incredible diversity of species. From there, we travel across the vast tree of life — from microbes to mammals — exploring how organisms are classified, how they function, and how they interact.
Finally, we zoom out to examine how living things come together to form dynamic communities and ecosystems. Whether you're preparing for future biology courses or simply curious about the natural world, this course offers an inspiring, flexible, and comprehensive introduction to modern biology.

Prerequisite: High school biology. This is a first-year university biology course, so no university credits are required.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.
The exam for this course will be invigilated on an approved date using Respondus e-proctoring software (LockDown Browser). This is a free tool provided with this course. More information will be given once you have been registered.
There is a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees. This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in. Please note this fee will be automatically added and included in your term tuition fees.
