My goal is to help others build confidence in movement, connect with their bodies and have fun while doing it! Everyone experiences movement differently, and that is part of the fun of teaching! I enjoy finding the right approach to help participants feel more connected and empowered in their bodies Above all, I want people to enjoy movement.

I grew up as a competitive athlete and lived an active life, being the rink, field and the studio. My love of movement led me to a BSc. in Kinesiology, which eventually led to my love of teaching human movement. During my undergrad, I made it my goal to learn how to teach one new class type a year, eventually trying Pilates, leaving me hooked.

My thirst for knowledge is unquenchable! You may often hear me talking about the following certification, course or movement endeavour I am pursuing. I am constantly growing my understanding of movement and learning how to encourage more biomechanically sound movement patterns with the most up-to-date scientific literature.

We both danced from a very young age. With 8.5 years of experience teaching social ballroom dancing to adults, we also trained in classical ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop dance styles. Our diverse dance backgrounds in various dance styles always allow us to find new ways of explaining dance moves and techniques. We enjoy working with people very much!

We specialize in teaching the American Style of ballroom dance from beginner level to advanced. It is one of our main goals to make the learning process fun. Although, sometimes it might get tough, we always look for funny moments. Learning how to dance should be fun and every win, no matter how small, should be celebrated!

Physical activity has forever been a part of my life. Growing up I was always involved in sports and I ran cross country during my university days. Since graduating from Kinesiology, I have made physical activity and exercise a staple in not only my personal life but also my career. Being able to promote my passion for a healthy, active and functional lifestyle is extremely rewarding and I am so blessed to work with inspiring individuals every day. This motivates me to do what I do.

Our bodies are designed to move as a unit, therefore, functional movement patterns that mimic day-to-day tasks are the basis of my teaching style. I teach to the class but also to the individual. Every participant’s body is different; therefore, I always encourage participants to work within their own abilities. With all classes, I provide modifications and progressions to all movements in order to accommodate the needs of every individual in the class.

My favorite part about teaching/instructing at REDS Recreation is getting to know our participants and their motivation for coming to REDS Rec. I enjoy seeing our participant’s reactions when they are successful in executing an exercise or movement, they never believed they’d be able to do. It is so rewarding hearing stories of overall improvements in quality of life, feeling stronger in their day to day life, more confident and healthier. Our participants are such a pleasure to work with and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to do what I do.

My fitness journey began when I was 15 years old. I spent the summer with my grandparent's, and they took me to their community gym. Ever since then, I've had a passion for movement!

I went on to complete a Bachelor and a Masters degree in kinesiology and also became a certified clinical exercise physiologist. Through my clinical experience, I realized my passion for fitness is rooted in joyful movement for those of all ages, ability, and fitness levels.

Within my practice, I aim to foster an environment where people can move their bodies in ways that feel good. I firmly believe that exercise is for everybody and every BODY! As an instructor, it's important for me to allow participants to meet themselves where they're at, without judgement, so we can work towards building or maintaining lifelong physical activity!

Growing up my dream was to become a middle school teacher. After my first year of university, life took a different path and teaching fitness was something I did for fun and for extra cash. As a university student I had no idea that I would become a teacher, just in a different environment!

Teaching fitness is one of the most rewarding parts of my role at REDS Recreation. As an instructor it is very important that program participants feel they are supportive and welcomed in an inclusive environment regardless of age, fitness level or ability. I work closely with participants to provide individual feedback so they feel success in every class they attend.

Hi! My name is Marcus Lees. I got into teaching by volunteering in a variety of classes offering functional fitness to seniors. At a private fitness facility, I interned as a personal trainer and marketing assistant during my Bachelor's degree, while in my Masters's program I developed a home-based exercise program for seniors experiencing barriers to exercise. I have 3 years of work experience in personal training and instructing and I love to help others achieve their goals.

My training philosophy leans towards function first and body movement patterns. Good functional movement is like having a good foundation in a home. Depending on the individual, I use a variety of methods to deliver information to clients with visual documents, physical demonstration, or verbal communication. Each individual may learn slightly differently so it is good to provide a variety of sources.

Marcus teaches:

  • Substitute for other Silver Series and Group Fitness classes

Certification & Education

  • Bachelor of Recreation & Sport Studies
  • Master of Arts in Sport & Recreation Studies
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Level C Coaching License (Soccer)

For me, teaching is a great opportunity to influence someone's fitness decision, behaviours and life. I embrace teaching as an opportunity to inspire others.

In my philosophy, doing exercise is a life choice that is about balance. From a big picture, having an active, healthy lifestyle makes a happier, healthier life. We should remember that exercise is an undeniable part of our nature, not a punishment or a chore.

My hope is to create a space for members to learn and have fun. I recognize that time is a limiting factor for many individuals, therefore, it shows great initiative towards a healthy lifestyle when they choose to come to REDS Rec to improve themselves through physical activity. The goal is to be there for support, provide structured programs and functional movements that will transfer into their daily life.

Each individual has different goals and reasons for coming to class. I want to inspire a community that encourages each other to meet those goals. Being physically activate improves the body and the mind, that is why I feel passionate about promoting active living. Seeing the positive impact that it creates in people's lives, as they demonstrate confidence, strength, and happiness is the most rewarding outcome of teaching for me.

My first experience of boxing was watching Rocky IV in 2011. Shortly thereafter I signed up for my university's boxing team as an active competitor until 2016. I had the privilege of teaching boxing from 2013-2016. Since then, I have wrestled for the UNB REDS.

I advocate mastering fundamental techniques through controlled, play-like drills. The perfects the basic movements and problem solving abilities and is a lot of fun.
