Business Awards Dinner

Our Annual Business Awards Dinner is our biggest and most prestigious event of the year when we celebrate our student scholars and accomplished alumni, and recognize the generosity of our donors. This year we will be hosting our 32nd Annual Business Awards Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, in the Atrium and Cafeteria of the Student Union Building.

Anne-Marie (née Van de Brand) Gammon, MBA, FCPA, FCMA, (BBA ’83)

President and CEO of CPA Atlantic School of Business

Born and raised in Penobsquis, N.B., Anne-Marie Gammon, MBA, FCPA, FCMA is the inaugural President & Chief Executive Officer of CPA Atlantic School of Business. Bringing over 25 years of senior financial management experience within diverse industries including education, real estate, automotive, aerospace and oil, Anne-Marie is also the past Director, Operations, Education Services with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, Vice President, Program Development for the Certified Management Accountants of Canada and was previously Vice-President, Financial Reporting for ING Real Estate Canada.

An experienced educator with over 20 years of experience delivering the CMA Professional Program, Anne-Marie served on the national CPA Certification Steering Committee established to develop the new pre-certification program to support the unification of the accounting profession in Canada. She has continued to work on various national committees to advance the certification program leading to the chartered professional accountant designation.

Actively involved in her community as a volunteer, Anne-Marie is the past President of Financial Executives International Canada - Atlantic Chapter. She is also past President of CMA Nova Scotia, past Chair of the CMA Canada Research Foundation and past Vice President, At Large with the Canadian Academic Accounting Association.

A chartered professional accountant, Anne-Marie has a BBA from the University of New Brunswick and subsequently received her CMA designation in New Brunswick in 1990. A strong believer in life-long learning, Anne-Marie received her Master of Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School, UK in 2012 and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration there. She was nationally recognized with the prestigious Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants’ designation in 2003 followed by the award of Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia in 2015.

Anne-Marie resides in Bedford, NS with her husband, Blake.

Michael Tsamaz (BBA ’84), Melissia, Greece

Chairman and CEO of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization S.A. (OTE).

Michael heads OTE Group, the largest telecommunications provider in Greece and SE Europe and part of Deutsche Telekom AG, since November 2010.

Under his leadership, OTE Group managed to streamline its financials, create new revenue streams and transform into a modern, customer-centric, tech enterprise, with COSMOTE as the unified brand for its fixed, mobile, internet and TV P&S. Its healthy financials allow OTE Group to implement a comprehensive, long-term investment plan in fiber optics networks, mobile NGNs, ICT and Pay TV services, advancing Greece’s infrastructure. Group strategy now focuses on its digital transformation and adaptation to the new digital era.

Michael is also Chairman of the Board of Telekom Romania Communications S.A. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) since July 2016 and head of the Digital Economy Committee since November 2016. Prior to his tenure at OTE Group, he held high-ranking positions in Marketing, Sales & General Management for multinational companies such as Vodafone and Philip Morris.

He served as a second Lieutenant in the Greek Army as an artillery soldier and commanded an anti-aircraft unit.

Michael is a member of the Board of Directors of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.

In 2014, the (GTB) Power 100 list, issued by the British magazine Global Telecoms Business, listed Michael at 84 among the 100 most powerful people of telecommunications.

The jury recognized that Michael managed to strengthen the role of his company in southeastern Europe. It is also marked that during 2010, the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization managed to cut 50% of its debt. Finally, Michael turned Cosmote into one of the most important and profitable mobile phone companies in Europe.

Michael is a donor to of UNB. Michael visited UNB in the summer of 2018. Michael was involved with the English Language program in 1979.
