How do I accept my offer of admission?

Log in to your UNB application account with your personal email and password to pay your deposit by clicking “Action Required”. Please note that accepting your offer of admission must be followed by your admission deposit payment (domestic students) or tuition deposit (international students) to confirm your seat in your program.

Where do I find and download my official acceptance letter?

You can download your official letter of acceptance from your application portal by clicking on your application and then the “Decision History” tab at the top. Here you will find a downloadable letter next to your accepted decision.

Is my admission deposit refundable?

No. Your admission deposit is non-refundable, and amounts vary by program. The deposit is required to confirm your seat at UNB. The deposit is transferrable if you change programs, and all deposits are applied toward your tuition and fees owing.

How do I pay my non-refundable admission deposit?

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can pay their deposit logging in to their UNB application account with a personal email and password. Pay your deposit by clicking “Action Required”, accepting your offer of admission, and continuing on to payment options.

International students (including those residing in Canada on a study, work or temporary residency visa), must use the CIBC international Student Pay portal to complete their payment. Payments can be made in the currency of your choice.


I received an email asking for an updated high school transcript. Why is this required?

UNB requires proof that all admission requirements have been met once students graduate from high school. Please ensure that you request an official transcript be sent to UNB once your senior year grades are finalized and posted to your transcript. Transcripts can be sent electronically by your school to:

Please note, as this is a requirement of admission. Students who fail to provide a final official transcript will be removed from their program.

I failed one of my high school courses required for admission. What happens now?

Admission into your degree program is conditional based on the admission requirements.

If you have failed to complete a requirement, or your admission average has fallen below the minimum required for admission, your offer of admission may be revoked. If this applies to you, please contact our admissions office. We can discuss next steps and review alternative program options with you.


Where do I find my UNB login ID or student ID?

You can find your UNB login ID and Student ID on your application account and on your official UNB acceptance letter.

Is my application account the same as my UNB student account?

No. Your application account was set up by you in order to apply to the University of New Brunswick using your personal email. Now that you are admitted, you will need to set up your UNB student account which will give you access to your UNB email account, Microsoft Office 365, the MyUNB Intranet, the UNB self-serve registration portal, and D2L Brightspace – the platform where you will access all your courses.


What is a UCard?

Your UCard is your official university Photo ID card. It provides key access around campus, acts as a purchase card, and provides access to deals and discounts around the city.

How do I get a UCard?

Detailed instructions about how to get your UCard (including your mobile ID) can be found at unb.ca/ucard. You must first set up your UNB Student Account in order to get your UCard.


How do I update my address, contact information or preferred name?

Once you have set up your UNB IT account, login to the MyUNB Intranet and go to Update Contact and Identity Information. This will bring you to your UNB profile where you can edit an existing address or add a new one. You can also you can edit your chosen identity including your chosen first and middle name, and gender identity.

How do I update my last name?

UNB requires students’ legal last name. If you have had a legal name change, please submit the Legal Name Change Form to the Registrar’s Office.


I need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) for my study permit. Where do I get that?

How much is my non-refundable tuition deposit and how do I pay?

The international tuition deposit (also known as the PAL deposit) is $4000. International students must pay their deposit by using the CIBC International Student Pay portal. UNB does not accept wire transfers unless they are processed through the CIBC International Student Pay Portal. Please note, payments can take up to 10 business to be posted to your UNB student account.

My student visa was denied. How do I request a refund for my tuition deposit?

Students who have had their study permits denied can request a refund for their tuition deposit by emailing finserv@unb.ca. They must include their full name, student ID, and if applicable, a copy of their study permit rejection letter from IRCC. The refund will be processed back to the country the funds were received from, through the CIBC International Student Pay Portal.

I need help with my Canadian study permit application – where do I go?

UNB’s International Student Advisor’s Office can assist admitted students with their study permit applications and immigration related questions.

How do I find rooming accommodations at UNB?

You can apply for a room in residence on campus by completing the UNB Residence Application.

When should I apply for my study permit?

If you are an international student, we highly recommend you begin the process of applying for immigration immediately. For help with this, our Immigration Information Centre will be available once you have activated your UNB Student IT account.

Where can I find support on transitioning to Canada?

The International Student Advisor’s Office provides a pre-arrival program to help you through preparing to transition to Canada and start your studies. You can access it through your UNB intranet.


I have completed my A-level, Advance Placement or International Baccalaureate examinations. How do I receive credit for these?

You may be eligible for transfer credit. Please have official examination results sent to the University of New Brunswick Admissions Office.

I have completed previous university or college courses. How do I receive transfer credit?

Transfer credit is automatically evaluated by your faculty in collaboration with the Registrar’s Office upon your admission to UNB. Please ensure all final official transcripts have been sent to the Admissions Office as part of your application process. Course syllabi may be required in order to review courses for equivalency. If you have questions about your transfer credit, please contact:

Please note students must disclose all post-secondary education at the time of application. Prior education withheld during the application may not be eligible for transfer credit.


Can I defer my offer if I can’t start this term?

Students can request a one-term deferral of their start date by completing the Undergraduate Deferred Admission Request Form. Please note, some programs cannot accommodate a January start date due to course sequencing.

I was previously admitted but did not attend. Is my offer still valid?

Your offer is no longer valid unless you requested a start-date deferral. Students may defer their start date by one term but will be required to reapply after that time by completing the online application. You will not be required to resubmit transcripts provided no additional education has been completed.


I received admission conditional on completing an English Language program—what do I do next?

You will be receiving registration information for your English language program by email; however, you can contact one of UNB’s two English language schools by emailing:

I received conditional admission based on my English language proficiency, but I am fluent in English. How do I have this condition waived?

Students must meet one of the conditions to have their English language condition waived. Proof of proficiency can be provided by submitting one of the approved academic tests of English language.

I was admitted on Academic Probation. What does this mean?

Academic probation is applied to transfer students who are admitted to UNB with GPAs below good standing, and/or students who have been required to withdraw from their previous institution. This condition requires students to maintain a GPA in good standing (2.0) during their first year of study at UNB. Failure to do so will result in academic dismissal.

We recommend all students who have been admitted on academic probation meet regularly with an academic advisor to ensure academic success in their program.

I was admitted into an Entrance program. What does this mean?

Entrance programs are pathways for students who may not meet regular admission requirements into their program of choice. Typically, students in entrance program are required to gain specific courses during their first year of study and are required to meet with an academic advisor regularly to help ensure success in the program.


When will I register for my classes?

Course registration opens in March for the following Summer, Fall and Winter Academic terms. Many faculties will offer advising to new students, beginning their studies in Fall, before or during the Spring Orientation, Advising and Registration event in May. Please check your email for important registration information including advising appointments and virtual registration sessions offered by your academic advisor.

How many courses must I take to be considered a full-time student?

Generally, a student carrying the equivalent of three or more courses in a term is considered a full-time student, and a student carrying less than the equivalent of three courses in a term is considered a part-time student. Learn more about student definitions.

When will I hear from my advisor/hear about Orientation?

You will receive emails during the Spring (or shortly after you confirm your admission if you have been accepted after May or are starting your courses in Winter term) inviting you to make an appointment with your advisor, and letting you know about the Spring Orientation, Advising and Registration event. What’s the difference between an “open access” course and a “term-based” course?

UNB offers two styles of online courses: Open Access and Term Based.

Students taking Open Access Online courses have 6 months to complete the course beginning the first day of term and complete assignments at their own pace; however, note that government student loan programs (Canadian and US) require that courses be completed within one traditional academic term. .

Term based online courses are offered within the traditional term start and end dates and typically include weekly scheduled learning activities or assignments. These courses must be completed within the term.

How do I register for online courses?

Once admitted, you can self-register for online courses through the UNB Self-Serve Registration & Planning tool. Courses can be filtered by delivery mode and term to find online course offerings. Make sure to meet with your advisor before registering to ensure that the courses you are selecting are relevant and appropriate for your degree program.

How long do I have to complete an open access online course?

Open access online courses must be completed within 6 months from the start date of the term.

Start dates for open access online courses are:

  • Sept. 1 for fall term
  • Jan. 1 for winter term
  • May 1 for summer term

Do I have an advisor as a Visiting student?

Visiting students are not assigned an advisor but they may seek registration help, advice and academic support from the UNB Academic Advising Centre located in the Registrar’s Offices on each campus.

I would like to take additional courses at UNB as a visiting student. Do I need a new Letter of Permission from my home institution?

Yes. To take additional studies at UNB as a visiting student, a new letter of permission from your home institution must be provided to the admissions office. If you wish to become a continuing UNB student, please complete the Undergraduate Transfer Request form found on your MyUNB Student Intranet.

I am a high school student taking a course online while completing grade 12. What do I need to do?

Students are considered visiting students at UNB, if they are enrolled concurrently in a high school while taking courses at UNB. Once admission is received, please claim your UNB account, which will enable you to self-register for your course(s). Students who require assistance with registration or choosing courses should reach out to the UNB Academic Advising Centre located in the Registrars Offices on each campus.


I was admitted to UNB as a “No Degree” student. What does this mean?

No Degree students are students enrolled in courses who are not part of a degree, diploma or certificate program. No degree students may register for any available courses for which they have the prerequisites. No degree students are considered UNB students.

Who is the advisor for No Degree students?

No Degree students are advised by the UNB Academic Advising Centre located within the Registrar’s Offices on both campuses.

What courses can I take as a No Degree student?

Once admitted to UNB, no-degree students can enroll in any available course for which they have the prerequisite. Students taking courses to meet entrance requirements at another institution should seek advising to ensure courses will be accepted.

Can I register full-time as a No Degree student?

Yes. No degree students may enroll full time; however, it is advised that students enter a certificate, diploma or degree program as soon as possible, to ensure courses taken are applied to a credential.

Where do I find my tuition bill?

Tuition bills are typically available approximately 2-3 week before the term start date. You can find your tuition statement on your MyUNB Student Intranet under Tuition & Fee Statement.

UNB’s Student Affairs and Services office can help you navigate options for Canadian and US Student Loans and Grants.

Once you have determined which loans to apply for, UNB’s Student Financial Services office can assist you with your student loan application. Login to MyUNB for information on federal and provincial loans or email studentloan@unb.ca for assistance.


How do I apply for a room in residence on campus?

You can apply for a room in residence as soon as you are admitted to UNB. Those who apply by March 1 are guaranteed a room assignment.

When will my room be assigned?

For students who have completed the residence application and paid the application deposit before March 31, room assignments are sent to their UNB email address on June 1. For student who apply after March 31, room assignments will be sent out the weeks following.
