Benefits of studying abroad

Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live what you learn and experience first-hand the places and cultures you discovered in your textbooks!

Personal growth

Benefit from a rewarding and eye-opening experience. You will grow on personal, professional and academical levels.

Being away from your friends and family is exciting and fascinating. You will learn how to live in a new culture and how to adapt to new surroundings. This immersion is a life-changing experience.

You will come home with an increased level of self-confidence because you will know yourself and your capabilities better. Take pride in your accomplishments from living abroad!

Travel while you learn

The world is your classroom! Our past students have been to Australia, France, China and more, all while earning credits towards their UNB degree!

You will come home with adventures, new friends and academic credits!

Language skills

Do you have abilities in French, Spanish or German? Studying in a country where your second language is spoken will help you become ever more fluent and confident in your language abilities!

If you don’t have language skills beyond English, you will be fine travelling to places where English is not the first language. Our partner universities offer courses in English so all your classmates will speak English.

If English is your mother tongue, you can expect international students to seek you out for your skills!

A new perspective on world affairs

Broaden your horizons and understand international political and economic issues. Living in another country means understanding how they handle everyday tasks and challenges which are different than in Canada.

Enhance your career

In today’s global economy, cross-cultural competence and cultural adaptability are in high demand, especially when it comes to hiring and promotions.

By studying abroad, you will be part of a select group of one to two percent of Canadians who do so. This experience will help you stand out!

The different skills you’ve gained abroad such as adaptability, resilience or cross-cultural communication, are all valued by employers!

Challenge yourself

You will be able to take classes which are not offered at UNB at institutions bigger who operate in a different academic system!

Your own international network

You will get to know other exchange students from all over the world. Many of them will become your best friends! After a term or a year abroad, you will have friends in many parts of the world.

Travel and see the world

Our past students catch the travel bug during their term or year abroad. Some of our past participants have:

  • celebrated New Year's in Paris
  • visited the Sound of Music tour in Switzerland
  • toured the many sights in Rome
  • biked in Cambodia and Malaysia
  • cheered on the Canadian Olympic team during the Olympic Games in Italy
