Our History

In the early 2000's, UNB made a conscious decision to better our Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. PDF matters were transferred to the Office of the Vice-President (Research) and soon after, new policies and guidelines were drafted. This progress significantly attests to UNB’s commitment to make our institution a highly competitive choice for Postdoctoral Fellows.

Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) provide an essential service to our faculties and departments and are pivotal to the advancement of research at UNB. The University of New Brunswick (UNB) offers many services, resources and facilities to assist PDFs both personally and professionally.

Postdoctoral Fellows come to UNB from all over the world and at various times of the year. Since there is so much diversification, PDFs are classified as neither students nor employees. We consider our PDFs to be in a class of their own.

Coming to a new city or to a new institution can be intimidating and will no doubt require some adjustment. In recognition of this period of adjustment we have created resources, like this website, to ensure the success of our PDFs during their term at this outstanding institution.

This website was designed to provide an overview of the institution and of course the surrounding areas. We hope this information proves helpful in assessing the general life at both the Saint John and Fredericton campuses.

We have also included significant information for our International Postdocs understanding that coming to UNB from an entirely different country can be challenging.
