Mailboxes

Mail should be picked up between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. daily to ensure morning mail has been sorted. A signature note will be included in your mailbox if a signature is required for incoming department/individual courier items. Only authorized personall or the consignee may sign. Residence students retrieving parcels from the Mailroom, must provide their student ID.

Large parcels

Large/heavy shipments will be delived to the department between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Outgoing mail

All outgoing mail and courier envelopes must be inserted into an off-campus envelope. Labels are available for oversized envelopes and parcels. Ensure your department and account number are written in the top left hand corner. Oversized envelopes must be sealed. #10 envelopes DO NOT have the flaps overlapping. Due to the new postage machine, the flaps now lay flat on each envelope.

Addressing items

To ensure your item reaches its destination, include the name, company name, street address, city, province, postal code, country and phone number. Couriers cannot deliver to a PO Box in most countries. Contact the Mailroom for exceptions. 

Sealing

All 6” x 9” and larger envelopes must be sealed before sending to the Mailroom.

Customs

The contents of shipments going to the US or an International destination must include a content description (example: clothing 100% cotton or pins sterling silver), quantity, declared value and Country of Manufacturer. Electronic items require model and serial number. Documents should also include a brief description (example: acceptance letters, contracts, etc.).

Campus mail

The campus bag from UNB Fredericton arrives at 9 a.m. daily and leaves daily at 2:15 p.m. by Canada Post. Note that only envelopes and small packets can be sent by campus mail. If you are sending larger items, follow the procedures above. 

Couriers

Couriers and Transport Companies deliver & retrieve items continuously throughout the day. Approximate times are listed below for daily scheduled couriers. Outgoing couriers must be received by Mailroom staff before 1 p.m. to allow time for processing. Every effort will be made to process items after this time, but we cannot guarantee shipping on the same business day.

Daily pick-up times

  • Kate-Lynn Courier (Canada Post delivery) - 9 a.m.
  • Purolator - 2:15 p.m.
  • Fedex - 2:15 p.m.
  • Canada Post - 2:15 p.m.

Time until delivery

  • Priority Courier - Next day service in the Maritimes
  • Xpresspost - 2-3 day service in Canada
  • Expedited - 3-8 day services in Canada, signature & insurance option available
  • XP USA - 6 days (approximate, USA only, phone number is required)
  • USA Expedited - Not available by Canada Post. If an item is too heavy to be sent by small packet, it will have to be sent by XP USA.
  • USA small packet - Only for small items < 1 kg (surface and air options available)
  • International traced small packet - Only for small items < 1 kg, 7-12 business days (approximate, depending on country)
  • International small packet - Only for small items < 1 kg (surface and air options available)
  • Surface Parcel International - 6-8 weeks (approximate) 
  • Air Parcel International - 3-4 weeks (approximate)
  • XP International - 11 days (approximate, only available to 17 countries). Check at time of shipping for cost; sometimes it is only $5.00 ore to send by Fedex)

Cylinders

 Incoming & outgoing cylinders are stored in cages located on the loading dock. During working hours, access can be obtained through the Mailroom and Security can be notified after working hours.

Dangerous goods

Contact Tammy Hicks before sending dangerous goods.

Photocopy paper

Orders are normally placed in January, April, July and November. To increase or decrease department photocopy paper orders, or if additional paper is required before the next scheduled delivery, contact Tammy Hicks.

Toner cartridge recycling

Empty HP and Konica toner cartridges can be sent to the Mailroom for recycling.

Loading dock

The Mailroom loading dock is equipped with a dock leveler, so tail lift is not required.
