Christie has played basketball since the age of eight. She was a star high school player and is now in her third year as a Seawolf. Christie was the Female Athlete of the Year at Rothesay High School for 2008-2009 or her MVP efforts in basketball and cross country.
She has worked hard and has been rewarded with the honour of being the recipient of the Dr. Ann Condon Academic Athletic Achievement award the past two years. This award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete who are very strong academically and athletically. Christie was also awarded MVP for basketball for the last two years. She has been fortunate and talented enough to have played for three different provincial teams (2006, 2007, 2008) and participated at three national competitions.
Christie has been involved in many things off the court, including being a volunteer mentor and tutor in the UNB Promise Partnership with Hazen White St. Francis School, a camp leader in the Atlantic Youth Missions and in the Awana ministry as a leader for children ages 8-12. She has also canvassed and volunteered with the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
"My favourite part about playing basketball is probably the opportunity to work as a team. Forming relationships with the girls on my team is certainly a highlight, besides of course winning."
Christie is looking forward to building close relationships with the new team members and to gelling as a team. Her goal for the team is to make it past the first round of playoffs and pulling off some upsets.
