Bachelor of Nursing Accelerated Program (BNAP)

Moncton

This accelerated program at the University of New Brunswick's Moncton site is tailored for students who already possess at least 46 undergraduate degree credits.

Application deadline

Applications to the Bachelor of Nursing Accelerated Program are due earlier than those for other programs.

The application deadline is Nov. 15 every year for intake the following September.

Admission requirements

To apply to UNB’s Bachelor of Nursing Accelerated Program, applicants must meet the following academic and prerequisite requirements:

Minimum high school course grades: Applicants must have a minimum grade of 70% in each of the following Grade 12 high school courses (or equivalent), with an overall average of 75% on the four:

  • Biology 120
  • Chemistry 122
  • English 122
  • Pre-calculus 110 or Foundations of Math 120 (prior to September 2016, Function and Relations).

University-level credits: A minimum of 46 university-level credit hours is required, with an admission average GPA of 3.0 (B or 70%) or higher.

The admission average will be calculated based on the most recent 46 credits for students who have completed more.


Applicants must successfully complete the following prerequisite university-level courses before starting the BN Accelerated Program:

  • Human Anatomy (4 credit hours)
  • Human Physiology (3 credit hours, no lab required)
  • Microbiology (3 credit hours)
  • Pathophysiology (3 credit hours)
  • Statistics (3 credit hours)

These courses can be taken online through UNB's Centre for Learning Futures or equivalents approved by UNB. A minimum grade of C or equivalent is required in each course, with a combined minimum GPA of 3.0 (B or 70%).


Applicants are not required to have completed all prerequisite courses before submitting an application but must successfully complete them by July 31 for the September intake.


As the language of instruction is English, applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through one of the following methods:

  • Minimum TOEFL (paper-based): 600
  • Minimum TOEFL (IBT): 100
  • Minimum IELTS: 7.0
  • Duolingo: Minimum score of 130
  • Pearson Vue Test: Minimum score of 68
  • Cambridge English Assessment C1 Advanced: Minimum score of 190
  • CAEL CE or CAEL online: Score of 80
  • UNB Fredericton English Language Program (ELP) Assessment: Score of 85 with no sub-score less than 85
  • Equivalent results from a UNB-approved standardized proficiency test
  • Completion of four or more consecutive years of full-time education in English in a country where English is the principal language

The Faculty of Nursing reserves the right to request additional proof of language proficiency before granting permission to register for academic courses.


How to apply

Review the admissions requirements before getting started.


You’ll need the following documents to complete your application:

  • Official transcript of marks grades from high school and university courses (46 university-level credit hours or more).
  • CASPer test score
    • Applicants should endeavour to complete this requirement in advance of the Nov. 15 application deadline.

After submitting your application, you will receive an automatic confirmation email including your UNB application number. Save that email for future reference.

Ensure that all components of your application have been received as only complete applications are forwarded to Nursing for review.


Offers of acceptance will be sent after the application deadline. If you receive an offer, confirm your acceptance by paying a $250 fee within two weeks of receiving your acceptance letter.

Once your offer has been confirmed you will begin receiving communications from our Moncton office to assist you in preparing for the program start in the fall.

Note: International students should be aware that additional fees and a Permit to Attend Letter (PAL) are required.


Students enrolled in the accelerated program should budget for the following additional costs:

  • Travel to off-site clinical settings: Includes room and board, if required.
  • Costs associated with clinical requirements: Such as specialized equipment, materials and resources.
  • Uniforms, identification, shoes, lab kits and equipment: essential for clinical practice.
  • Graduation costs in year four.
  • National registration exam: Required upon completion of the program.
In addition to these unique costs, students are responsible for paying standard UNB undergraduate tuition and fees.
