Details for applicants

Requests for information can be made to UNB via our online RTI request form. Remember to review the links provided to ensure the information you seek isn't already publically available.

The Act allows public bodies 30 business days to process and respond to requests for information; under certain circumstances, time extensions are allowed. For example: (as per section 11 of the Act)

  • More details are needed to identify the requested record(s)
  • Slow response time to clarification question(s)
  • A large number of records have been requested or must be searched
  • Responding within 30 business days would unreasonably interfere with operations
  • Time is needed to engage in third party process
  • Time is needed to consult with another public body

If/when the University determines that a request will require more than 30 business days, we will notify the applicant that a response time extension has been granted and why. The response will always be issued as soon as it is ready.

Once the response has been issued, the applicant is welcome to contact the University should they have any questions about the response; we are always happy to discuss and clarify if they need be. Applicants also have the right to file a complaint with the Ombud (Access & Privacy division) or refer the matter to a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of New Brunswick for review. Complaints from applicants must be recieved within 40 business days; see sections 65 and 67 of the Act for more details.
