Advising for second-year students

For students who are entering their second year of studies, you need to select your courses before seeing the Academic Advisor.

The Academic Advisor will not select your courses for you but is here to guide you through gathering the information needed so you successfully complete your degree.

Using the undergraduate calendar, you can look at course descriptions and determine if there are course prerequisites.

Fall Term 2018 and Winter Term 2019 opened March 19, 2018.

Open office hours

Students are advised during open office Hours (except the first two weeks of the Fall and Winter terms). Students are seen on a first to arrive - first to be advised basis as appointments are not taken. Remember to bring an updated copy of your unofficial UNB transcript with you, which you can get through your e-services under the academic tab.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 5 to Friday, Sept. 14, students can sign up for 20-minute appointments until Friday, Sept. 14. The sign-up sheet for these appointments is located on the Arts Advising Bulletin Board above the folding seats outside of Oland Hall, Ground Floor, Room 11.

Regular open office hours resume for the 18/FA term starting Monday, Sept. 17 for first- and second-year students are as follows:

  • Monday, 1:30 - 3:50 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 1:30 - 3:50 p.m.
  • Thursday, 1:30 - 3:50 p.m.

You should review your transcript to make sure you have met your Bachelor of Arts degree requirements. You need to choose at least 2 term-courses (6ch) in three of the four groups in the advising & course groupings at the 1000 and 2000 level. Most students will complete this requirement in their first year.

If you email Tanya please be sure that you include your name, student number and your career/educational goals along with the list of courses that you are registered for. The Academic Advisor will look your selections over and make recommendations based on all of this information.

If you know what discipline you want to honour, major, double major and/or minor in, contact a Faculty Advisor in the appropriate discipline(s).

Due to asthma and allergies please refrain from smoking and wearing perfume, cologne, deodorant, after shave, body sprays and other scented products when you come to the office for advising. Thank you.
