Academic advising for new students

All new students starting university from high school are invited to our virtual Spring Orientation, Advising, and Registration - or what we call SOAR - during the week of May 25-29.

New students starting in September 2020 (20/FA) or January 2021 (21/WI) with no previous post-secondary education (university or college) should review the 2020-2021 advising information below for advising instructions on how to select and register for courses. This information is updated through the year as necessary.

Choosing your courses

These advising tools will help you choose your courses for the year.

  1. Watch the advising video above or read through the Faculty of Arts advising instructions. These provide a step-by-step guide to selecting your courses.
  2. Our advising and course groupings sheet lists the potential courses for you to choose from.
  3. The Arts Calendar has descriptions of all courses for first-year Arts students.
  4. Account activation and course registration

After choosing and registering (if possible) for courses

Email your course selections to for review. In the subject line of the email put “2020 - 2021 course selections” and please use your UNB email account (no gmail or yahoo accounts) and be sure to include your name, student number, and any career or educational goals that you may have.

New student guide

The new student guide for UNB Saint John students equips you with all the tools you need to get started on your university career.

Due to asthma and allergies please refrain from smoking and wearing perfume, cologne, deodorant, after shave, body spray and other scented products when you attend advising.
