Climate change

One of the greatest threats to our planet

Climate change is one of the greatest threats to our planet with its severity and urgency. Ten of the warmest recorded years have occurred in the past 12 years as greenhouse gases are emitted into the atmosphere. This causes tremendous impact to our environment as glaciers melt, sea levels rise, extreme weather events increase, and species habitat is altered.

Climate Change Action Plan

A Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) sets challenging yet achievable emission reduction targets to reduce impact on the environment and incorporates mitigation and adaptation strategies to meet these goals.

Typically, a CCAP includes governance to drive change towards transportation, procurement, food policies, energy management, waste management, water management, operations, renovation and construction of buildings, and grounds management.

Through assistance from the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund, UNB Sustainability has undertaken the creation of a Climate Change Action Plan for UNB.
