UNB Smoking Policy

UNB goes smoke-free in September 2022

UNB is deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of our students, staff, faculty and the communities we serve. Therefore, effective Sept. 1, 2022, UNB campuses and the Moncton site will be smoke-free.

This comes after a bi-campus Smoking Policy Review Committee was struck late in 2017 to seek input from members of the UNB community as to the direction UNB should take on the issue of smoking on campus.

Based on the work of the Committee and discussions among the senior leadership of the university, UNB implemented a staged approach to prohibiting smoking on our campuses. The two key stages included:

  1. The introduction of a limited number of designated smoking areas on UNB campuses for a two-year period from Sept. 1, 2020, to Aug. 31, 2022.
  2. The implementation of fully smoke-free campuses effective on Sept. 1, 2022.
