  • Smoke-Free New Brunswick quitline at 1-866-366-3667. Speak directly with a Respiratory Therapist who can help you with your quit plan! Free one-on-one advice is available to anyone living in New Brunswick. Quit Coaches offer non-judgmental, confidential counselling to help you with everything from thinking about quitting to staying smoke-free for life. Currently, the quitline is not staffed by healthcare professionals and is provided by quit coaches who provide behavioural support.

  • UNB Student Health Centre: Book an appointment to speak with a health care professional about quitting smoking.
  • Dietitian Services: Focus on healthy eating and an active lifestyle instead of having a cigarette. Available to all full-time UNB Fredericton and STU students at no cost. Book an appointment today. No referral is needed.
  • UNB Counselling Services: Research shows that counselling can significantly increase the chances of quitting successfully. To learn more about counselling services on campus see UNB Fredericton Counselling Services or email sjcounsellor@unb.ca to book an appointment with a UNB Saint John counsellor.
  • Pharmacies:
    • UNB Fredericton has a privately owned and operated pharmacy on campus. It is located inside the UNB Bookstore at 29 Dineen Drive.
    • Check 411.ca for additional pharmacies in the surrounding area.

    • Check with your insurance provider and pharmacy to confirm coverage and cost of smoking cessation aids

Smoking cessation aids

Your doctor, nurse practitioner, or pharmacist will be able to provide you with support and advice on nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) and stop smoking medications.

  • Not all options are listed. Please note, over the counter NRT sometimes require a prescription for coverage through health insurance plans.
  • NRT products currently available:
    • Nicotine patch (7, 14, and 21mg)
    • Nicotine gum (2 and 4mg)
    • Nicotine lozenges (1, 2, and 4mg)
    • Nicotine Inhalers
    • Nicotine Mouth Spray
  • Prescriptions to stop smoking medication available:
    • Varenicline
    • Bupropion
