Special Announcement

March 16, 2020

Dear UNB Community,

Today, we have learned of two presumptive cases of COVID-19 at UNB Fredericton. New Brunswick Public Health has verified that both individuals are being closely monitored and the presumptive cases are directly connected to the first travel-related case in New Brunswick.

The health and safety of our community is our top priority. New Brunswick Public Health has absolute authority in this matter. UNB is working with New Brunswick Public Health to support contact tracing and is taking all guidance and direction from them. New Brunswick Public Health will identify and notify all close contacts of the individuals.

Given the two presumptive cases on campus, and the accelerating pace of newly diagnosed COVID-19 infections in Canada, UNB is transitioning to provide only essential services as directed by New Brunswick Public Health. Over the next 48 hours, we will be scaling down operations to only those essential to the delivery of courses by alternative methods and business continuity processes.

I recognize the anxiety and uncertainty the recent message from New Brunswick Public Health is creating for members of our community. We must take these actions to help limit interpersonal interactions that can allow the virus to spread. We encourage you to support each other during this difficult time for our university.

I acknowledge that we do not have all the answers. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this unprecedented situation. We will be reassessing and evaluating the situation continuously and issuing regular communication updates as they become available.

Please check your university email regularly in the days and weeks ahead. We will continue to update this website and the latest news will be shared with you via email and UNB social media channels.
