Mathematics and Statistics Option
Mathematics and Statistics Major
A minimum grade of C is required in the courses counting for credit for this program. In exceptional circumstances a grade of D may be acceptable with the approval of the Chair of the Department in courses offered through the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Business.
Lower-Level (1000-2000 level) Requirements:
- One of CMPE 1093, CS 1003, CS 1063, CS 1073 or CS 2704
- MATH 1003, MATH 1013, MATH 1503, MATH 2203, MATH 2513, MATH 2523 (see Note 2)
- STAT 1793, STAT 2793
- At least 18ch in lecture courses and at least 8ch in laboratory courses chosen from:
- BIOL 1017 (2ch lab), BIOL 1205 (3ch lecture), BIOL 1105 (3ch lecture)
- CHEM 1041 (3ch lecture), CHEM 1046 (2ch lab), CHEM 1072 (3ch lecture), CHEM 1077 (2ch lab) (Note: CHEM 1872 (3ch lecture) and CHEM 1877 (2ch lab) can be used to replace CHEM 1072 (3ch lecture) and CHEM 1077 (2ch lab).)
- GEOL 1044 (3ch lecture, 2ch lab), GEOL 1074 (3ch lecture, 2ch lab)
- PHYS 1011 (3ch lecture), PHYS 1012 (3 ch lecture), PHYS 1021 (2ch lab), PHYS 1022 (2ch lab) (Note: APSC 1011 (4ch lecture) and APSC 1015 (1ch lab) and APSC 1021 (4ch lecture) and APSC 1025 (1ch lab) can be used to replace the full PHYS sequence (10ch).)
- An additional 24 ch of approved electives at any level (see Note 3).
Upper-Level (3000-4000 level) requirements:
- CS 3113 or MATH 3414 (or equivalent)
- MATH 3213, MATH 3713, MATH 3733 (see Note 2)
- An additional 12 ch in upper-level MATH courses (excluding MATH 3633)
- STAT 3793, STAT 4203, STAT 4703, STAT 4793 (see Note 2)
- An additional 6 ch of upper-level STAT courses.
- An additional 9 ch of upper-level approved electives
Notes:
- It is recommended that MATH 2203 is taken in the first or second year.
- Certain courses listed above are offered occasionally or in alternating years. Please consult the Course Catelogue for details.
- Students should consult with the department for a list of approved electives.
- MATH 1853 and MATH 2633 cannot be taken for credit in this program.
