Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest 

Grades 1 to 12 | English and French | New Brunswick Region

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is pleased to announce the 2026 Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest.

Participants are welcome to write the contest in person at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John. Parking is complementary.

10:45 - 11:15 a.m.

Assignment of students to contest rooms

There are six contest levels for the following grade groups:

  • Grades 1 - 2
    18 problems (3 difficulty levels) in 45 minutes

  • Grades 3 - 4
    24 problems (3 difficulty levels) in 60 minutes

  • Grades 5 - 12
    30 problems (3 difficulty levels) in 75 minutes

Onsite contest papers

Students will NOT be allowed to take contest papers home.


Fifty bursaries of $20 will be given to cover the registration fee for up to 50 participants.

  • Applications accepted until Feb. 2.
  • Recipients announced Feb. 6.
  • Selection by the Board of Directors, based on information in the application (financial situation, previous participation, etc.)

  • Certificates of participation will be generated electronically and accessible within their account
  • Regional certificates of excellence will also be posted in student accounts
  • Regional award winners in the in-person contest will be posted

Online training sessions will be available in both English and French for most grade levels.

  • Sessions are coordinated nationally
  • Registration for online training is done through Math Kangaroo.
  • Fee: $12 per student per live session

Registration fees

  • $20 on or before Feb. 9
  • $25 after this date until Feb. 23 (official registration deadline)

Registration includes one free contest training lesson if students register on or before Feb. 21.
Because of the free lesson, there will be no refund or credit for the contest.
