G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre

Our athletic facilities are open to students, staff and faculty with COVID-19 directives and expectations of operating.

Athletics staff are committed to ensuring a safe return and enjoyable workout experience for our UNB Saint John students, faculty, and staff.

Everyone will have a role to play in providing a safe workout environment. Every effort is being made to create a positive experience for users of the athletic facilities.

Note: Everything is subject to change due to COVID-19. Information will be updated regularly as new directives are issued.

Facilities

The fitness room and weight room are open Monday to Sunday. 

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.  
  • Saturday and Sunday: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Interest is increasing as people get back to working out and discover the fitness room is safe to use. Take your next step in getting back to a consistent fitness routine.

Services and amenities

  • Washrooms, showers, and water fountains will be available.
  • The locker changing area can be used.
  • Community memberships or day passes are available.

 

Hand sanitizer stations are available in the facilities.

Do your part

Users are strongly encouraged to practice good personal hygiene with frequent hand washing, use of sanitizer and appropriate cough & sneeze etiquette.

Users who are sick, or feeling ill, should be considerate of others and stay home.

Frequently asked questions

Will there be fitness classes or fee-based programs available?

Yes! Fitness classes are free to students, staff & faculty. Yoga will be offered for the cost of $50 per semester. 

Will sport clubs be offered?

Sport Clubs are student driven, to join an existing sport club or to start a team please contact Stephanie Guimond

Who do I contact if my question or concern is not listed here?

Do I need to wear a mask?

Yes. A community facemask is required in order to access the Fitness room or weight room. Members may remove their mask when they reach their intended workout space. Masks must be worn at all times when moving to different areas throughout the facilities.

Will I be able to use my favourite piece of equipment?

Usage is first come, first serve for the cardio equipment. There is no guarantee that you will get the machine you want, however, nine machines are available.

Where can I store my belongings while working out at the fitness room?

Users should keep all belongings with them during the workout. It is strongly suggested that valuables be left at home or in the residence room while working out.

Am I restricted to where I can workout?

Only the fitness room, weight room and gym will be available. The weight room on the lower level will be limited to 4 people at a time. Cardio equipment is available in the fitness room on the upper level.

What measures are being taken to ensure the safety of staff?

All athletics staff will complete mandatory return-to-work orientation and training sessions prior to reopening and be required to wear a mask as per the university protocol.

Yes. Community memberships are available, please contact Sharon Coyle
