Our commitment to equity, fairness, social justice & social change

UNB is committed to creating an inclusive environment in which to study and work. We understand that seeing and celebrating our diversity is a key pathway to achieving that goal. This website is an ongoing project to catalogue various EDI related efforts happening in our community and offers ways to engage with this work.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Survey

In November 2020 UNB partnered with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) to conduct an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Survey to help us better understand and support our employees and pinpoint areas where we can make the biggest improvements. The results from this survey are now available to the UNB community. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Resources on Sharepoint

A new Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Resources sharepoint site has been launched by the Human Rights & Positive Environment Office. An evolving space, the sharepoint site is meant to provide opportunities to the UNB community for equity, diversity & inclusion related learning, such as the recently released Unconscious Bias Online Module, and access to issue specific resources. Check it out!

Chosen Name & Gender Identity Policy

UNB is committed to providing a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment in which to study and work - as such, the Chosen Name & Gender Identity Policy has been approved and is in the process of being implemented. The Chosen Name & Gender Identity online form is now live, enabling students, faculty and staff to indicate or change their name and gender within UNB systems without having to change their name legally or provide a reason for their request. Rediscovering The Roots of Black New Brunswickers

In February 2020, members of UNB's Black History Month Planning Committee, collaborating with the UNB Arts Centre, created a series of posters profiling prominent Black New Brunswickers. The exhibit was titled "Rediscovering The Roots of Black New Brunswickers". To ensure the stories of these important historical figures are appropriately remembered and recognized, their posters are permanently housed at the UNB Arts Centre.
