UNB is committed to creating an inclusive environment in which to study and work. We understand that seeing and celebrating our diversity is a key pathway to achieving that goal. This website is an ongoing project to catalogue various EDI related efforts happening in our community and offers ways to engage with this work.
UNB is committed to providing a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment in which to study and work - as such, the Chosen Name & Gender Identity Policy has been approved and is in the process of being implemented. The Chosen Name & Gender Identity online form is now live, enabling students, faculty and staff to indicate or change their name and gender within UNB systems without having to change their name legally or provide a reason for their request. Over the last few months, the Policy Working Group and Implementation Team have been working on a number of projects including educational tools and social media pieces designed to inform the UNB community about the various ways they can create and encourage a more positive and inclusive teaching, working and learning environment for everyone.
In February 2020, members of UNB's Black History Month Planning Committee, collaborating with the UNB Arts Centre, created a series of posters profiling prominent Black New Brunswickers. The exhibit was titled "Rediscovering The Roots of Black New Brunswickers". To ensure the stories of these important historical figures are appropriately remembered and recognized, their posters are permanently housed at the UNB Arts Centre.
As part of the President’s Diversity Dialogue Series, and in recognition of International Women’s Day 2021, The Human Rights & Positive Environment Office of UNB, in collaboration with the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research, invited the UNB community together for a screening of “Yours in Sisterhood," a film by Irene Lusztig described as “a collective portrait of the feminist conversation now and forty years ago.”
UNB aims to work in respectful collaboration to harness and build our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion; to connect and collaborate with our UNB community on gathering information on EDI related activities, events, and more. If you know of an event, or plan to host one or if you recently attended an EDI related event please let us know!
