May 2017

May 1: Summer term begins for both UNBF & UNBSJ. Tuition fees are due for all courses 1st day of classes

May 1: UNBFR- Full Session Summer Term begins (May 1 – Aug12), Session A (May 1– June 23), Session B  (May 1 – May 26), Session C (May 29 – June 22) | Session D (Jul 4-Aug 14), Session E (Jul 4 - Jul 22),Session F (Jul 24-Aug 12) Tuition Fees are due | UNBSJ - Full Session  (May 1 – Aug 4), Session H (May1- Aug 4),Session G (May 1– June 16), Session J (June 19-Aug 4), Session K (July 4-Aug 4)

May 3: UNBF- Session B – Last day to Add or Drop courses. Courses dropped up to and including this day are not shown on the academic record.

May 5: UNBSJ –  Session G  Last day to Drop a course. Courses dropped up to and including this day are not shown on the academic record.

May 8: UNBF Session A -  Last day to Add or Drop a course. Courses dropped up to and including this day are not shown on the academic record.

May 12: UNBF Full Session (FR01) courses – Full session courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic record. After this date a notation of “W” (withdrawn no academic penalty) will be shown on academic transcript. *Note: students may drop a full Session courses up to the second Friday following the course start date. Full Session start dates vary depending on the individual course start and end dates. UNBSJ – Session H - Last day to Add or Drop a course. Courses dropped up to and including this day are not shown on the academic record.

May 15: UNBF Session B – Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of “W” (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn Fail) will apply.

May 17: Research-Based Students - Last day to make fee payment arrangements with Financial Services or students may be withdrawn from the School of Graduate Studies & their graduate programmes. Exception will be made to those students who are defending their theses/reports/dissertations by the end of this month. Note: A Late Payment Fee of $75 will be charged if a student fails to negotiate his/her student loan, or pay fees within the payment due dates.

May 17: Encaenia, UNBF – Ceremony A

May 22: Victoria Day – University Holiday – no classes*

June 2017

June 1: UNBF – Session A - Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of "WF" (withdrawn fail) will apply.

June 9: UNBSJ – Session G – Last day of classes

June 12: UNBF – Session C - Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply.

June 12-16: UNBSJ – Session H – Reading Week | UNBSJ – Session G – Final Examinations

June 19: UNBF – Session A & C - Last day of classes | UNBSJ – Session J – Classes begin  (June 19 – Aug 4). Tuition fees are due

June 21-22: UNBF – Session C – Final examinations

June 21-23: UNBF – Session A – Final examinations

June 23: UNBSJ – Session J -  Last day for adding and dropping courses. Session J courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic record.

June 28: UNBSJ – Session H - Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of “W” (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn Fail) will apply. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply

 

July 2017

July 3: Canada Day – University Holiday – No Classes or Exams*

July 4: UNBSJ – Session K  - Classes begin Education only | UNBF – Sessions D - Classes begin (July 4 – Aug 14) | UNBF – Sessions E – Classes begin (July 4 – July 22). Tuition fees are due.

July 5: UNBSJ – Session K - Last day for adding and dropping courses. Session K courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic record. UNBF – Session E - Last day for adding and dropping courses. Session K courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic record.

July 7: UNBSJ -  Session J - Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply | UNBF – Session D - Last day for adding and dropping. Last date for doctoral dissertations to reach the Dean of Graduate Studies for the final examination process if degree to be conferred at Fall Convocation 2017. No exceptions will be made. (Note: meeting this deadline does not necessarily guarantee graduation at the subsequent ceremony).

July 16: UNBF – Session E - Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply.

July 20: UNBF – Session E -  Last day of classes

July 21: UNBF – Session E  Reading Day

July 22: UNBF – Session E – Final Examinations. UNBSJ – Module 4 –  Classes ends

July 24: UNBF – Session F Classes begin  Tuition Fees are Due. UNBSJ – Module 5 – Classes begin (July 24 – Sept 23)

July 25: UNBF – Session F Last day to Add or Drop a Course. Courses dropped up to and including this day are not shown on the academic record.

July 27: UNBF – Session D Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply.

July 28: UNBSJ – Sessions  H, J, K - Last day of classes

July 31: August 04: UNBSJ – Sessions H, J, K – Final examinations

 

August 2017

August 03: UNBF – Session F - Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply.

August 07: New Brunswick Day – University Holiday – No classes or examinations*

August 10: UNBF – Sessions D & F – Last day of classes

August 11: UNBF – Sessions D &  F – Reading Day

August 12: UNBF – Session F – Final examinations

August 12-14: UNBF – Session D – Final examinations

 

September 2017

September 1: Last day to apply to graduate in order for your degree to be conferred at Fall Convocation 2017. Even if you do not plan to attend the ceremony, you must apply in order to be added to the graduation list. This is an intent to graduate pending on successful completion of degree requirements.

September 2:UNBF Residence open for new students. Fall orientation week begins.

September 04: Labour Day- University Holiday – no classes*

September 05: GSA Student Health & Dental Plans and for the Bus Pass -  Option to Opt-out begins Sept 5 and ends Sept 30th.

September 05-06: Academic Programming and Orientation. Please see the Director of Graduate Studies in the Dept./Faculty.

September 06: Residence open for returning students.

September 07: Start of classes for both Campuses (not including Law and the 11-month B.Ed.)

September 15: Last day for adding Fall Term and full-year courses. Fall Term and full-year courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic transcript. After this date a notation of "W" (withdraw no academic penalty) will be shown on the academic transcript.

September 15: Last day of submission of all completed degree requirements (including defence & submission of corrected dissertation/thesis/report) to the Dean of Graduate Studies for graduation at Fall Convocation 2017. Late registrations after this date are subject to a $25 fee.

September 20: Last day to make fee-payment arrangements with Financial Services or students may be withdrawn from the School of Graduate Studies & their graduate programmes. Exception will be made to those students who are defending their thesis/reports/dissertations by the end of this month. Note: A Late Payment Fee of $75 will be charged if a student fails to negotiate his/her student loan, or pay fees within the payment due dates.

September 22: Opt Out deadline for International Health (with NB Medicare only), please visit the Financial Services website

September 23: UNBSJ – Module 5 – Classes end

September 29: Research-Based Students completing their degree requirements (including defence & submitting final copies of dissertation/thesis/report) by the last day of the month in which a term commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees for that term. Note: Even if students defend by the end of the month, they must register for the  term. Once they have completed by thedeadline date, registration for that term will be removed by SGS. They will be eligible to graduate at Encaenia/Spring Convocation in May 2018.

 

October 2017

October 05: SGS Executive Committee meeting & approval of the graduation list for Fall Convocation 2017.

October 09: Thanksgiving Day. University Holiday – No Classes*

October 19: Fall Convocation – UNB Fredericton Visit the website for more information on the ceremony:

October 20: Fall Convocation – UNB Saint John. Visit the website for more information on the ceremony. Last day to withdraw from Fall term courses with pro-rated refund.

October 30: Last day to withdraw from Fall Term courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of “WF” (withdrawn fail) will apply.

 

November 2017

November 10: Fall Term Reading Day – no classes or tests/assignments scheduled.

November 11: Remembrance Day – University Holiday – no classes*

November 21: Last day in Fall Term to hold class tests (no class tests to be held during the last 10 teaching days of the term)

 

December 2017

December 05: Last Day of Fall Term classes (62 teaching days)

December 06-07: Reading Days

December 08: Final Examinations begin.

December 09: UNBSJ – Module 1 – Classes end

December 19: Final Examinations end  (10 days)

December 20: Residence close for holiday break.

 

January 2018

January 01: University Holiday. No classes*

January 03: Residence opens.

January 04: Start of classes for both campuses ♦ UNBSJ – Module 2 – Classes begin (Jan 4-March 17)

January 12: Last day for adding Winter Term courses. Winter Term courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic transcript. After this date a notation of "W" (withdraw no academic penalty) will be shown on the academic transcript. Late registrations after this date are subject to a $25 fee. Last day to withdraw from full-year courses without academic penalty. A notation of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic transcript. After this date a notation of "WF" (withdrawn fail) will apply.

January 31: Students completing their degree requirements (including defence & submitting final copies of dissertation/thesis/report) by the last day of the month in which a term commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees for that term. Note: Even if students defend by the end of the month, they must register for the  term. Once they have completed by the deadline date, registration for that term will be removed by SGS. They will be eligible to graduate at Encaenia/Spring Convocation in May 2018. Last day to opt out of GSA Health & Dental and for the Bus Pass. February 2018

February 02: Last date for doctoral dissertations to reach Dean of Graduate Studies for the final examination process if degree to be conferred at Encaenia/Spring Convocation in May 2018.  NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. (Note: meeting the deadline date does not necessarily guarantee graduation at the subsequent ceremony.)

February 04: UNBSJ – Module 2 – Classes begin (Jan 4 – March 17)

February 16: Last day to withdraw from Winter term courses with pro-rated refund.

February 19: Family Day Holiday - Pending approval by the Province of New Brunswick.

February 23: Last day to withdraw from Winter Term courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of "WF" (withdrawn fail) will apply.

 

March 2018

March 01: Deadline to apply on-line to graduate at May Encaenia/Spring Convocation 2018 (Note: Even if you do not plan on attending the ceremony, you need to apply to be on the graduation list. Also, this is an intent pending on the successful completion of degree requirements)

March 02:Master's theses and reports (with the exception of MEng reports) should reach Director of Graduate Studies of GAU if degree to be conferred at May Encaenia 2018/Spring Convocation 2018.

March 05-09: Winter Term Break. No Classes*

March 16: MEng reports should reach Director of Graduate Studies of GAU if degree is to be conferred at May Encaenia 2018/Spring Convocation 2018.

March 30 - April 02: Easter – University Holiday – no classes*

 

April 2018

April 10: Last Day of Winter term classes (62 teaching days)
