URec facilities, including The Richard J. CURRIE CENTER and the SMA Pool, are now open. At this time, all programs, services and facility access will follow a phased reopening approach.

Booking a swim time will allow us to adhere to and maintain our capacity standards. This measure will also allow us to promote physical distancing and help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases in a safe and effective manner.
Yes. A community face mask is required in order to access URec at this time. Members may remove their mask when they reach their intended workout space. Masks must be worn at all times when moving to different areas throughout the facilities.
Access to the SMA Pool will be limited to lap swim and dive tank until further notice. As URec is following a phased reopening approach, a determination on when aquatic classes & swim lessons will resume has not been made at this time.
No. At this time, the SMA Pool will be limited to lap swim & dive tank only with a max capacity of 9 swimmers during each booking period.
No. Showers are unavailable until further notice. Members are encouraged shower at home prior to arriving at the pool.

As URec will follow a phased reopening apporach, no date has been determined yet on when in-person group fitness classes or fee-based programs will resume. Planning is underway to ensure the safety of all participants & instructors. More information regarding in-person classes & programs will be shared with all members as it becomes available.

URec has created a number of health & wellness at home resources for all members to utilize. Find home workouts, instructional videos, virtual group fitness and a number of tips and strategies for maintaining an active & healthy lifestyle while at home.

At this time, no date has been set for when intramural sports will resume. Plans are underway to determine what may be possible. For example, offerings will depend on number of students available, approved sports and activities, equipment usage, etc. More information regarding intramural sports will be shared with all members as it becomes available.
At this time, no date has been set to offer Sport Clubs. Due to the wide variety of sport clubs at UNB, and while nothing has yet to be finalized, potential offerings may result in no activity, training and practicing only or modified activities. Yes. Consecutive booking times are permitted, but members working out at the CURRIE CENTER will be required to exit and re-enter the facility after each booking period regardless of when they entered. Consecutive and multiple bookings at the SMA Pool will no longer be available as of Nov. 11 due to the limited capacity for lap swims. By doing so, URec strives to serve more members.
Facilities will undergo a cleaning transition after each booking period. A 15-minute cleaning transition will be completed after each booking period at both the CURRIE CENTER & SMA Pool.

Members may cancel their workout (or swim) time, via our member portal, up to 12 hours before the reservation time. Alternatively, members may phone us during regular business hours to cancel.
While booking a workout time confirms members access to the requested facility, it does not guarantee access to a specific area or piece of equipment. Areas within each facility will have strict capacity standards that must be followed at all times.
Members may place all belongings (no valuables please) in a designated area near the Membership Services desk (1st floor, CURRIE CENTER) until further notice.
No. Once you confirm your workout time you are permitted to access parts of the facility open to members where available capacity permits. For members who book a lap swim time at the SMA Pool, as an example, that reservation will apply only to the pool (vice versa for the CURRIE CENTER).
URec is committed to ensuring the health & safety of all staff. All URec staff will complete mandatory return-to-work orientation and training sessions prior to reopening.

All memberships will be reactivated effective Tuesday, Aug. 4. For members who have pre-paid for services such as locker rentals, towel services or personal training, those services will remain on hold until restrictions are lifted on each of the respective areas.

To compensate for the lost usage resulting from the closure, URec will provide a 25% discount on all new parking permits purchased by Thursday, Oct. 1. Members must purchase a new URec parking permit by this date in order to receive the discount. For more information on current parking fees, please visit our Parking section.
