Swim lessons and lifesaving society courses

Spring 2022 Swim Lessons

Registration for the winter term of our children’s swim lesson program will open Saturday, April 9 at 2 PM. Registration is available online, over the phone (453-4579), or in person at the Membership Services Desk of the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER.

At this time group lessons and limited private lessons will be offered. Lessons will be held over 8 weeks from May 7 – June 25 at the Sir Max Aitken Pool in the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.

Please note: Masks are required in our facilities and on the pool deck.
 

Lifesaving Society Courses

Bronze Medallion

Prerequisite: 13 years old or completion of Bronze Star certification

Individuals who have successfully completed level 10 and who are 13+ years old can begin training to become a lifeguard. Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education-judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues. 

Bronze Cross

Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion + Emergency or Workplace Standard First Aid certification. 

Bronze Cross prepares lifesavers for the safety supervision role and responsibilities of assistant lifeguards in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification.
