MA in English (Gender and Sexuality in Literature)

Students in the Gender and Sexuality in Literature stream will approach gender and sexuality studies through the lens of literature. They will develop a foundation in theoretical approaches to the field and undertake research for a thesis in a topic of their own choosing.

Our program is small and offers students attentive supervisory support.

Chapters of MA theses regularly become academic articles and conference presentations.

Requirements

Students will normally undertake:

  • Theories of Gender and Sexuality in Literature: GSL Core Course (3 ch)
  • One GSL elective (3 ch)
  • 3 more one-term academic graduate courses (9 ch total)
    • We recommend that 3 ch of these credits be taken through GWS 4004: Seminar in Gender and Women’s Studies.
  • English 6100: Research Methods (6 ch)
  • Thesis on a GSL topic
