Dr. L. Dugan Nichols is a Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at UNB Saint John. Originally from the American Midwest, Dr. Nichols completed a PhD in Communication at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. His dissertation focused on local journalism and lay ideologies about the uneven development of capitalism, such as job loss in one region and a publicly subsidized factory in another.

He is currently working on the intersection of social-media use and professional action sports (e.g., skateboarding and snowboarding), with special attention to the promotional labour that athletes perform online. His side interest involves the evolution of conspiracy cultures on the Internet.
