Time(s): 07:30 PM - 09:00 PM
Category: Fredericton
Location: Fredericton

Event Details:

Featuring UNB's Musician in Residence, Nadia Francavilla, this concert will take place Feb. 14, 2024, at Memorial Hall - perfect for a date night (hello Valentine's Day!), family outing, or solo excursion.

The French women composers featured in this concert worked in the Impressionist tradition of Debussy and Ravel. In a time when music by women composers was rarely performed, these trailblazers defied expectations, making their living from their art. But despite their prolific output–more than 300 pieces performed throughout the early 20th century–history has seen their contributions eclipsed by those of their male counterparts. Nadia Francavilla (violin), Karin Aurell (flute), Carl Philippe Gioinet (piano) and guests present a bold revival of these important but overlooked works, including Lili Boulanger’s Cortège and Nocturne; Louise Farrenc’s quintet for piano and strings; and Mel Bonis’ suite op. 59 for flute, violin, and piano.
