Event Description:

The Bridges Annual Polar Dip is a traditional the Bridges House hosts to raise money for the IWK. All the proceeds go to further research and to support families as their child undergoes treatment at the Maritime region's leading health care and research center. From 2 to 4 p.m., a pool will be set up right outside Bridges' house, where participants will step in and plunge into the cold water. There will be a lifeguard (Claire Matlock, certified lifeguard), 2 CPs on duty, and a first responder from Saint John ambulance throughout the event to ensure safety procedures are followed the entire time. An RA from Bridges House will also be there as an extra hand for the event. All participants must fill out a waiver to plunge into the pool, and if they are 19 years of age or younger, it must be filled out by a parent/guardian. This event is a tradition to raise lots of money for the IWK. There will be a donation/set up a table beside the pool where waivers will be kept, and donations will be collected. The only way someone can step into the pool is if they donate to a cause.

The Polar Dip is a dry event only; anyone who goes to UNB or STU can participate (if their waiver is signed and student ID is shown). Each participant is prohibited from jumping and must bring a dry towel to the event. We encourage everyone to dress up in fun costumes (that comply with community standards) and to have lots of fun. The Bridges House committee will be in charge of managing this event and will be working closely with the hired staff to ensure a smooth event. The event will end at 4 p.m., and we will start cleaning up around 4:10 p.m.. All across the pool will be denied at 4 p.m. Donations will be done online through the IWK website and donations will go directly to them. Cash donations will be collected and that form of donations will be mailed to the IWK. Cash donations will be collected through a cash box provided by residence admin.
