Applied Behaviour Analysis

BEHV6001Critical History and Philosophy of Behaviour Analysis3 ch

Examine behaviour analysis within its historical, philosophical, and social contexts to strengthen critical engagement with the field. Cover radical behaviourism, functional contextualism, and the development of behaviour analysis, including its scientific, ethical, and practical goals. Develop analytic skills for situating contemporary research and practice within broader societal influences and evaluating underlying assumptions. Delivered term-based online.

Prerequisite: Must be a graduate student.

BEHV6002Concepts and Principles of Behaviour Analysis3 ch

Examine core concepts and principles derived from the experimental analysis of behaviour and radical behaviourism. Explore basic learning phenomena, including respondent, operant, and complex behaviour, with emphasis on experimental methods and research design. Develop analytic skills for evaluating research evidence and understanding how behavioural concepts and principles emerge from experimental data. Delivered term-based online.

Prerequisite: Must be a graduate student.

BEHV6003Ethics and Practice3 ch

Develop ethical, culturally responsive, and evidence-based decision-making skills for applied behaviour analysis. Examine ethics codes, standards of practice, professional conduct, and professionalism across research and service delivery contexts. Analyze ethical responsibilities, common dilemmas, and the complexities of ethical practice within the science and application of behaviour analysis. Delivered term-based online.

Prerequisite: BEHV6001

BEHV6004Functional Behaviour Assessment and Intervention3 ch

Develop applied decision-making skills for designing interventions for complex behaviour informed by functional behaviour assessments. Critically evaluate research on indirect and direct assessment and functional analysis. Apply assessment findings to case formulation and intervention planning, with emphasis on antecedent-based strategies, consequence-based strategies, systems of behaviour change, and special considerations in intervention design. Delivered term-based online.

BEHV6005Behaviour Assessment and Instructional Strategies3 ch

Develop skills in selecting and applying behavioural assessments to guide instructional planning and skill acquisition. Examine criterion-referenced assessment of verbal behaviour, daily living skills, academic skills, and related domains using commercially available and custom tools. Apply assessment results to identify skill strengths and deficits, set socially significant goals, and design instruction and behaviour-change procedures. Delivered term-based online.

BEHV6006Single-Case Research Design3 ch

Develop skills in using single-case research designs to support clinical decision-making and ongoing evaluation of intervention effectiveness in practice settings. Examine theoretical foundations and methodologies for studying single systems, including individuals, families, organizations, and other social systems. Apply experimental designs, data collection, and visual analysis to monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and determine whether interventions produce meaningful change for clients. Delivered term-based online.

BEHV6007Supervision and Training3 ch

Develop skills in applying principles of behaviour analysis to supervision, training, and performance challenges in human services settings. Examine behaviour-analytic supervision, ethical practice, and Organizational Behaviour Management to support skill development, performance improvement, and systems change. Apply evidence-based strategies to plan, implement, and evaluate training and supervision practices that promote ethical, effective, and autonomous professional performance. Delivered term-based online.

Prerequisite: BEHV 6002

BEHV6008Verbal Behaviour3 ch

Examine language and cognition primarily through a conceptual behaviour-analytic lens. Explore historical and contemporary analyses of verbal behaviour, including Skinner’s Verbal Behavior and relational approaches to language and cognition. Develop understanding of conceptual foundations, theoretical development, and interpretation of empirical literature. Discover how these frameworks inform evidence-based approaches to teaching language, communication, and problem solving. Delivered term-based online.

Prerequisites: BEHV 6001 and BEHV 6002.
