Dr. Alderson is an Associate Dean in the School of Graduate Studies and a Professor in the department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of New Brunswick Saint John.

He has a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada (2002).

His research interests are in finite geometries and their applications to coding and information theory.

Since 2002 his research has been funded through the NSERC of Canada. Dr. Alderson is a dedicated teacher, and has received several teaching awards. Tim is a Fellow of the Institute for Combinatorics and its Applications, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

He is an active member of the mathematical community, and has held elected positions within the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) as a member of the Executive (2018-2023) and as Board Chair (2023-2028), and within the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) where he has served as Atlantic Director, and most recently as Atlantic Vice President (2021-2025). He also serves on the editorial board of the journal Contributions to Discrete Mathematics.
