Barbara Trenholm, Professor Emerita, joined the Faculty of Management in 1980 and retired in 2008. She received the rank of Professor Emerita at Encaenia 2009, based upon her extraordinary record of professional service and pedagogical dissemination. She has taught a wide range of accounting courses in the BBA and the MBA programs, both before and after her retirement.

She has received recognition for the quality of her teaching as a recipient of the University of New Brunswick's Allan P. Stuart Excellence in Teaching Award, a UNB Merit Award, and a UNB Teaching Professorship. She has also received the National Post's Leaders in Management Education Award for Atlantic Canada and the Academy of Business Administration's Global Teaching Excellence Award.

Barbara has a record of extensive service for the Faculty and the University and has chaired or been a member of numerous academic committees. She has also served in past as Acting Dean of the Faculty and co-chair of the Board of Trustees of the UNB Pension Plan for Academic Employees Pension Board.

She has been active in professional organizations such CPA Canada, CPA Atlantic School of Business, CPA NB, and the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, serving on boards and/or committees for these organizations. She also served as president of CPA NB’s predecessor organization, the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Barbara holds an ICD.D designation with the Institute of Corporate Directors and is an experienced board member. She has served on boards including public companies, private companies, federal and provincial crown corporations, and not-for-profits.

Her research interests include accounting standard setting and issues involving director and auditor liability. Her publications have appeared in Accounting Horizons, the International Journal of Production Economics, and CPA magazines including the formerly titled CA Magazine, CGA Magazine, and CMA Magazine. She is a prolific author of pedagogical and learning materials and has co-authored two bestselling accounting textbooks.
