Rabindra Chaulagain

Dr. Rabindra Chaulagain is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social Science at the University of New Brunswick. Before joining UNB, he taught in the Department of Sociology at Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, where he taught a variety of Sociology and cross-coded courses for four years. At UNB, he teaches: Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Urban Life, Senior Level Sociological Theory, and Sociological Approaches for Understanding Indigenous Experiences.

As a critical scholar and lifelong learner, Dr. Chaulagain’s teaching philosophy and approaches are grounded in anti-racist and decolonial pedagogies that value the core ideas of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization; nurture students’ civic and critical subjectivities; introduce them to diverse materials and ways of learning; and acknowledge a diversity of perspectives, encouraging political and social awareness, transformative and collaborative modes of knowing. His teaching and learning approaches are also informed by his awareness of the theoretical and practical implementation of EDID, cross-cultural understanding, various forms of structural and institutional racism, anti-racist advocacy, and the importance of critical dialogues for finding ways to resolve intersecting and persisting social problems.

He has published peer-reviewed articles with the Journal of Borderlands Studies, International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society, and Critical Horizons: A Journal of Philosophy and Social Theory. He has also contributed theoretical and community-based research to several edited volumes published by Routledge, Athabasca University Press, and Cambridge University Press. His monograph entitled Refuging Continuity, Narrating Political Subjectivity: The Biopolitics of Displacement, Camp, and Community has been accepted by Athabasca University Press and is expected to be published by the end of 2026.
