Anna Johnson is a Lecturer of political science at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. Her research interests centre on political parties, political finance, and gender and diversity. Her broad regional focus is North America and Western Europe.

The focal point of her research and teaching is Canadian federal and provincial politics, with a specialization in New Brunswick and the Maritime Provinces.

Originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, she received her BA (Hons) in International Relations and Political Science from St. Thomas University (2014), and her MA in Political Science from the University of Calgary (2016). She is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Toronto and is currently completing her dissertation titled, “(Un)Incentivized: New Brunswick’s Gender Parity Incentives in Comparative Perspective.”

Her dissertation examines party responses to party-directed gendered political finance, comparing incentives in New Brunswick to financial penalties in Western Europe and voluntary quotas in Canada.
