Cam Woykin is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker and educator. He received his BFA in visual arts from the University of Lethbridge, an MFA in film production from York University, and was recognized by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as one of Canada’s emerging talents in film.
In 2017, the Toronto Film Critics Association awarded The Stairs—a feature documentary he contributed to as cinematographer—with the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award.
In 2026, the Globe and Mail ranked The Stairs #39 on their Top 100 list of the best Canadian films ever made. Woykin’s work—which spans fiction, documentary, experimental, and hybrid forms—has been exhibited across the country and internationally, including the Ann Arbor Film Festival, DOXA, Hot Docs, the Museum of the Moving Image, RIDM, TIFF, and elsewhere.
Woykin has previously taught with the National Film Board, the National Screen Institute, the Royal Conservatory, York University, and OCADU. He presently teaches in the Media Arts and Cultures program at the University of New Brunswick. During his time at UNB, he has been nominated for the Faculty of Arts Teaching Award five times and won the award in 2025 for the 2024-2025 academic year.
“My production courses focus on storytelling and other timeless principles of filmmaking. The creative, project-based learning that my students engage in requires a degree of vulnerability that can be challenging for some, so, each term, I invite the group to join me in parking our egos outside the classroom so that we can better serve the dynamic art form that is cinema and focus on improving our craft as filmmakers.”
