Please mark your calendars for the second talk of our Winter 2026 Feminist Lunch Series to be given on Friday, March 13 at 12:30pm in the Tilley Hall, room 28 (basement), on UNB Campus in Fredericton by Dr. Michelle Lafrance.

Just a reminder: this year our focus at the Feminist Lunches will be on all aspects of Women's Health with talks on a variety of topics of interest.

The talk is titled: "Adventures in Action Research: Reflections & Lessons Learned”.

Abstract: Feminist scholarship is committed to social change. While I have long admired action research, it is only recently that I have stepped into this space. In this presentation, I will outline the trajectory that brought me to action research and describe the project our team undertook to provide practical support for older adults and their caregivers in New Brunswick. I will describe lessons learned in doing research for change, including the personal and professional challenges and successes we negotiated in our commitment to this work.

Michelle Lafrance is a Professor of Psychology at St. Thomas University.  Her research and teaching interests are rooted in critical and feminist approaches, exploring the social construction of distress and wellbeing. She has published and presented in the areas of women’s experiences of depression, self-care, leisure, and sexuality, including critical explorations of the DSM and the medicalization of women’s distress. Her most recent research explores the experiences of caregivers of older adults and has resulted in the creation of “Aging in New Brunswick:  A User’s Guide”, a bilingual tool that helps New Brunswickers navigate the health and home care systems in the province.

All are welcome! There will be coffee and cookies.

The Feminist Lunch Series is organized by: UNB/STU University Women’s Centre, UNB Gender & Women’s Studies Program, UNB Libraries and UNB Alumnae association.
