In the pursuit of data quality: Six techniques for detecting careless survey responding.

Dr. Cameron Kay, Visiting Assistant Professor at Union College
May 12 at 2 p.m. in Keirstead Hall, Snodgrass Lounge, K105

Are you older than your parents? Have you ever suffered from a fatal heart attack? Do you eat popcorn with a fork? If you answered yes to these questions, you may not be paying attention. In this talk, Dr. Kay will discuss how questions like these can be used to detect careless survey responding. Specifically, he’ll walk through six practical techniques for identifying low-quality responses, including response duration analysis, long-string analysis, and the use of instructed response items. He will also discuss the consequences of including low-quality responses in one's data and provide a comparison of survey platforms based on their typical data quality.

All are welcome!
