Screening of L'Ordre secret-FR
Event Details:
The Center for Resources in French is inviting you to the viewing of L'Ordre secret (The Secret Order), a film by Acadian director Phil Comeau on Wednesday, April 5 at 4 p.m., in Harriet Irving Library - Milham room. The viewing is free, in French with English subtitles.
What if one of your relatives had been a member of a powerful secret society?
Two days before his death, a father reveals to his son, Phil Comeau, that he was Commander of the Order. Amazed, he seeks to understand and sheds light on the Order
of Jacques-Cartier, a powerful secret society which, from 1926 to 1965, infiltrated all sectors of Canadian society, forging the destiny of the French language
communities. Through unpublished testimonies from former members of the Order and historical reconstructions, this film paints a striking picture of the social
and political struggles of Francophone minorities in 20th-century Canada.
With an introduction by Dr. Chantal Richard whose family also played a part in the Order.
