Event Details:

A UNB Fredericton Physics Department Seminar will feature Mustafa Saeed speaking on "Gravitizing quantum theory."

“According to the postulates of quantum theory there are two distinct types of evolution of the quantum state. The first is unitary evolution (U) which is continuous and deterministic. The second is state reduction (R) which is discontinuous. Penrose proposes that bringing quantum theory in line with general relativity (i) provides a relationship between U and R and (ii) explains why R happens. In this talk I will summarize Penrose's proposal."
