UNB Fredericton is pleased to invite you to a virtual literary reading by Mi’kmaw poet Rebecca Thomas, with special guest poet Shannon Webb-Campbell, on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. Atlantic/6 p.m. Eastern.

Rebecca Thomas is a poet and activist; her ultimate goal is to make Canada a better place for her Indigenous community because, in her words, “so many people tend to forget they were here first.” She is a former Poet Laureate of Halifax and her most recent collection of poetry, called I place you into the fire, was listed as one of CBC's top 20 books of 2020. She also writes children’s books, such as I'm Finding My Talk, which has been shortlisted for the First Nations Community Reads Award. Her most recent book, Swift Fox All Along, was a finalist for the 2020 Governor General's Award for children's literature.

Shannon Webb-Campbell is a member of Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation. Her books include Still No Word, I Am A Body of Land, and Lunar Tides. Shannon is a doctoral candidate at the University of New Brunswick in the Department of English, and the editor of Visual Arts News Magazine. She lives and works in Kjipuktuk/ Halifax, Nova Scotia.  

This event is free and open to the public via Eventbrite registration. ASL interpretation will be provided. This reading is made possible through generous support from the Canada Council for the Arts, UNB Faculty of Arts, UNB Department of English and The Fiddlehead.
