Examines the religious, philosophical and ethical justifications for non-violence as a tool for social change in the contemporary world from the perspectives of diverse religious traditions. We will study the concepts and theories for non-violence that may include selected writings of the 14th Dalai Lama, Cesar Chavez and Wangari Maathai in their religious, cultural, social and historical backgrounds. Prerequisites: 30 ch or permission of the instructor.
