| ENGL6883 | Unruly Bonds: Narratives of Racial Intimacies in the Americas | 3 ch |
|---|---|---|
Engage with a multi-genre selection of literary and critical texts from the 18th century onwards that responds to colonial conditions of Western modernity such as the slave trade, land expropriation, genocide, 8 and indentured servitude. Follow the way the histories and legacies of colonialism in the Americas entangle Indigenous, Black, Brown, Asian, and White subjects. This course asks: how does art represent and cultivate communities relating across vast social differences, cruelly intimate histories, and, at times, mutual harm? Study literatures from across Turtle Island and the Caribbean as the sites for messy, loving, violent, and knotted social worlds of differently racialized peoples. | ||
