ED6172Foundations of Accessible and Inclusive Education3 ch

This course examines the theoretical and pedagogical underpinnings of accessibility in education, focusing on frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), trauma-invested education, Response to Intervention (RTI), Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Students will explore how educational systems conceptualize and respond to learner diversity, critically examining mechanisms such as accommodations, Personal/Individual Learning Plans (PLP/IEP), assessment and placement practices, and their impact on agency and self-determination. The course emphasizes a critical understanding of how these frameworks and systems can either foster and/or limit equitable participation and belonging.
