This course will explore the legacy of trauma, particularly the undermining and outlawing of traditional identities and spiritual ceremonies under the Indian Act and the breakdown of healthy patterns of family and community life through residential and federal day schools. Theories of intergenerational trauma transmission, complex PTSD, and emotional suppression will be explored and linked to contemporary crisis situations.
