Biology BIOL 1009 Three (3) credit hours

This course is the online version of the BIOL1001 lecture course. We start off the course by reviewing general cell features, then we explore fundamental biological principles starting at the molecular level and building up to a deeper understanding of the biological processes within cells that are essential for sustaining life.

NOTE: This course is designed for science students. Students intending to major in Biology must also take BIOL 1006. Credit will not be given for both BIOL 1001 and BIOL 1009.

What you will learn

This course is designed to help you:

  • Build a strong foundation in biology to support future studies in biology and related academic fields.
  • Accommodate your busy schedule — the course is fully asynchronous and flexible, with up to six months to complete. Exams and assignments are scheduled according to your availability.
  • Stay focused and succeed — each lecture includes clear learning objectives, short and concise recorded lessons you can replay anytime, and 10 practice quizzes and activities to help you prepare for tests effectively.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

  • 2 x midcourse exams (invigilated, 60% total)
  • 1 x final exam (invigilated, 40% total)

The exam(s) for this course will be invigilated on an approved date using Respondus e-proctoring software (LockDown Browser and Monitor). This is a free tool provided with this course; a webcam is required. More information will be given once you have been registered.

Fees and payments

There is a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees. This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in. Please note this fee will be automatically added and included in your term tuition fees.
