Psychology PSYC 3033 Three (3) credit hours

Using the biopsychosocial model of health, this course introduces you to health topics, such as disease, and lifestyle conditions, while highlighting the role our physical, psychological and social environment we are in has on these health concerns. The topic of stress is presented as a common element of all these topics. Interventions, including mindfulness are taught as contemporary approaches to managing health conditions and stress management.

Prerequisite: Introductory Psychology 1013 and 1023 (6 ch).

  • Using online lecture recordings, contemporary videos and websites, you will be immersed in a ‘live’ learning environment that you can access when it is right for you, depending on your needs and personal schedule.

  • You will engage with other learners as well as with myself by accessing discussion boards to learn what others are doing as well as to provide your own perspective on specific, contemporary topics.

  • By engaging in a health behaviour change project, you will understand why health behaviours are challenging to change and the most effective change programs to use for managing these behaviours.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

  • 10 x quizzes (mini quiz, 2% each for a total of 20% of your final grade)
  • 2 x exams - midterm and final (invigilated, 30% each for a total of 60% of your final grade)
  • 2 x assignments (personal opinion mini assignment, 5% each for a total of 10% of your final grade)
  • 1 x health behaviour change project (10% of your final grade)
  • 1 x bonus points opportunity (locate a current event newsworthy item, 2 points)

The exam(s) for this course will be invigilated on an approved date using Respondus e-proctoring software (LockDown Browser). This is a free tool provided with this course; more information will be given once you have been registered.
