Inspire | With more than 25 per cent of its adult population infected with AIDS, Swaziland, Africa has the highest instances of infection in the world and the lowest life expectancy. Compelled to act, Mark Bettle (BBA'82) started the Hampton-Piggs Peak Partnership, connecting his hometown of Hampton, NB, with Piggs Peak. Since 2005, the partnership has brought much needed support to the small community. Read more

New research chairs expand UNB’s commitment to research and innovation

University Highlights | The UNB CAST Atlantic Salmon Research Chair will conduct research aimed at curbing the alarming decline of Atlantic salmon stocks. The UNB Health Research Chair in Cannabis will focus on the study of the biochemistry, medicinal and pharmacology of cannabis. Read more

University Highlights | Ali Ghorbani (PhD'96) received the Senior Entrepreneur Award, Dhirendra Shukla received the Entrepreneur Promotion Award and Jordan Kennie (BScEng'16, D-TME'16, MEng'17) was saluted with the Young Entrepreneur Award. Read more

Bringing energy technology developed for Africa to Canada

Alumni Stories | Caleb Grove (BScEng'15, D-TME'15, MEng'17) spent six months building a microhome powered by renewable energy. Located in his hometown of Douglas, NB, the eight-by-12 foot house uses 100 per cent solar and wind energy. Read more

Combining love of food and blogging

Alumni Stories | Through their food blog and YouTube channel, Chopstick Travel, Luke Martin (BSc’16) and Sabrina Davidson (BSc’16) take viewers along the streets of Taiwan as they sample local delicacies. Read more

The accidental doctor

Alumni Stories | Roxanne Reeves (BA'06, MA'09, PhD'14) never thought that she would finish university, let alone achieve her PhD. For the fourth time, and in her 30s, Reeves was set to drop out of university; that is until an accidental meeting forever changed her life and set her on her path as a tireless crusader for the transformational benefits of mentorship. Read more

Honouring a lifetime of achievement

Alumni Awards and Achievements | Gerry Pond (BA'66, DLitt'04), one of Atlantic Canada's great businessmen, has received the 2017 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award for his "contribution to Canadian business, philanthropic endeavors and outstanding leadership within the community and across Canada." Alumni Awards and Achievements | Four alumni have received top honours: Sally Armstrong (DLitt'16) was promoted to officer of the Order of Canada and Allan Andrews (BPE'69) was appointed member of the Order. Receiving their province's highest recognition, Elaine Carty (BN'66) and Jennifer Wade (BA'58) were appointed to the Order of British Columbia. Read more

Cherrington family creates scholarships

Impact of Giving | Alan Cherrington (BSc'67), one of the top diabetes researchers in North America and a recipient of the UNB Alumni Award of Distinction, credits UNB with igniting his passion. Cherrington and his family have created an endowment to provide science and nursing students with four-year renewable scholarships. Read more
